Innovative, successful public sector projects have until the end of July to apply for the All African Public Sector Innovation Awards 2010. The bi-annual awards ceremony is a continent-wide event celebrating innovation and best practice with service delivery in the public sector.
“The programme recognises and rewards the achievements of public servants and their partners from the private and not-for profit sectors who have successfully developed innovative solutions to service delivery and governance challenges,” reads a statement by the Centre for Public Service and Innovation.
While focused on efforts achieved through innovative approaches, methodologies and tools, the event also provides opportunities for knowledge sharing, lesson learning, partnerships and the possible replication of successful initiatives across the African continent.
The awards are split into three categories. The Innovative Service Delivery Improvements is aimed at projects that have either improved the delivery of services to citizens and stakeholders external to government or improved internal efficiency within the public sector.
The Innovative Partnerships between Government, Private Sector, and Civil Society Organisations category is aimed at projects with partnerships that have created better outcomes for projects or projects which have built sustainable partnerships between government and social partners through alternative approaches to participation or consultation.
The Innovations in the Systems and Processes of Government category meanwhile caters for projects demonstrating high quality examples of innovative governance.
All finalists receive certificates and training to the value of R20 000. The category winners receive a trophy while the innovator of the year receives R40 000 for a study trip, in South Africa or abroad.
Applications close on 31 July 2010. To download an application form visit www.cpsi.co.za or call 012 683 2832 for enquiries.
